Bioblitzes and awareness days

Fixed-window events you can join, or host your own chapter of.

• City Nature Challenge

  City-versus-city iNaturalist bioblitz over four days at the end of April. Cities and organizations sign up as organizers

• Great Southern Bioblitz

  The Southern Hemisphere counterpart, four days in spring. You can register your own region

• Asia Nature Challenge

  Asia-wide iNaturalist bioblitz with an open call for collaborating organizers. Dates have moved between September and October, and no 2026 edition is announced yet

• National Moth Week

  Worldwide moth-ing in the last full week of July. Registering your event is the first thing the site asks you to do

• Audubon Christmas Bird Count

  December 14 to January 5. The compiler system lets a group run its own count circle, which makes it the strongest host-your-own event here

• Bat Week

  October 24 to 31 every year, with a full organizer toolkit

• Pollinator Week

  Late June, with a toolkit and a map you can add your own activity to

• World Migratory Bird Day

  Two peak days a year, in May and October, with an event registration form and campaign toolkit

• World Wildlife Day

  March 3, the UN and CITES day, with an annual theme and posters in three languages

• Endangered Species Day

  Third Friday in May, with events across the whole month and a promotion toolkit

• World Wetlands Day

  February 2, with a Ramsar materials pack and a global event map

• International Vulture Awareness Day

  First Saturday of September. Submit your event and it appears on the activities page within a couple of days

• Save The Frogs Day

  April 28 every year, with free event registration

• World Fish Migration Day

  Late May, every second year, and it invites you to register your own event

• WeDigBio

  Four-day specimen digitization and transcription blitz, twice a year in April and October. Institutions can register events

• CWF Great Canadian Bioblitz

  Late September observation window with an identification week after

• eBird Big Days

  One day of worldwide birding, twice a year: the second Saturday of May and again in October. Participation only, there is no local chapter to run

• Great Backyard Bird Count

  Four days in mid-February, from Cornell, Audubon and Birds Canada

• Big Butterfly Count

  UK fifteen-minute butterfly counts across three weeks from mid-July

• FrogID Week

  Australian frog-call recording blitz in early November, run by the Australian Museum

• Aussie Bird Count

  Third week of October

• RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

  One weekend in late January, and one of the largest by participant count
